![]() ![]() On the 6th of March, at the Social Dialogue of Hospitals at the European Commission in Brussels, trade unions highlighted their concern about the health of health workers and the lack of protocols and safety materials. Even before the COVID-19 outbreak, Europe had a shortfall of around one million health workers. In the medium and longer term, increased public spending on health and increased investment in public and non-commercial health are crucial, not only to reverse years of underspending in many countries but also to ensure that health staff and facilities can cope with future demands. In its absence, the death rate due to this virus, COVID-19, will continue to increase dramatically. What we need is fast, free and quality medical care accessible for all. Others have to make do with the care that under-funded public and non-market services can still offer. This means that wealthier citizens can afford fast, regular, quality care. These commercial services offer more expensive services to the customers who can pay more for them. ![]() And commercial players are entering the "market" to fill the void created by this policy. On the 7th of April and after, whether it will be through actions on the streets, in our hospitals, through social media, or in the press, we urge our decision-makers to ensure that our health system and our health workers are capable of answering the needs of the population through a strong universal public health system that will be protected from lucrative logics and the appetites of commercial companies.Įven before this health crisis, public and non-market services could no longer meet the needs of the population due to a lack of resources. ![]() The crisis we are witnessing today illustrates what we are fighting for every 7th April, the European Day of action Against the Commercialization of Health and Social Protection and People’s Health Day: a strong, solidarity-based health system accessible for all. This has affected health systems’ ability to coordinate large-scale preventive campaigns and has limited their capacity to expand curative services in crisis situations while eroding the broad public’s confidence in the health system as a whole.įor these reasons the European Network*, People’s Health Movement, EPSU*, Alter Summit and Medact urge our local, national, European and global policymakers to undertake immediate action to protect our public health. For several years, the health systems of European Member States have undergone strong attacks from privatization, commercialization, underfunding and regionalization, imposed by the European Union through austerity measures on health spending. This crisis is only the tip of the iceberg. Uneven distribution of resources is compromising our ability to control the virus and is leading us to unnecessary suffering and death today and tomorrow. What we need now is a strong solidarity-based health system for all and coordination that surpasses national borders, with effective action on a European and a global level.Įnsuring public health means that we make sure that the most vulnerable of us can also access all health measures to be taken. The COVID-19 outbreak shows us the importance of coordinated action, not only in our own local health systems, but also nationally and internationally. Today, more than ever, it is urgent to act. If you act in a disciplined manner, without letting yourself be guided by impulses, you make objective decisions. In business and in dealing with other people, self-control is a desirable quality. Why self-control is important?īehavior characterized by impulsiveness and rashness is associated with a lack of self-control. In leadership positions, a high degree of self-control is assumed. The ability to control oneself in certain situations is classified as a positive personality trait. This study was recorded and has since been regarded as a benchmark for assessing the individual's capacity for self-control. To all the participants who took so long patiently waited for the experimenter to return after about 15 minutes, were promised two marshmallows as a reward. On the instructions of the test leader, they were first to ring a bell and then allowed to eat the marshmallow. The sight of tempting sweets was so great that their self-control was not sufficient for this. However, some children could not wait that long. The foam candy was not to be eaten until the experimenter re-entered the room after a short break. They were then asked not to snack on it immediately. The participants in this procedure, which later became known as the Marshmallow Test were presented with a sweet (marshmallow). personality psychologist Walter Mischel conducted some experiments on self-control. Self-discipline then prevents falling back into old behavior patterns again and again. In this case, the beloved bar of chocolate, the piece of cake or a sumptuous meal is renounced in favor of a good figure.Įliminating foods from the menu through self-control is necessary to change eating behavior. Often, self-control is for one's own good. It is about controlling feelings and impulses that need to be suppressed for various reasons. As synonyms for this term are also used self-discipline or self-control is used. The self-control definition describes behavior that serves personal goals. The term self-control refers to the ability to control one's actions and carefully consider decisions. ![]() It is thus a matter of creating a balance between control addiction and necessary self-control. Behind the urge to control are negative beliefs or other mental blocks. An exaggerated urge to control is restrictive. Too much self-control, on the other hand, is rather a hindrance. A certain amount of self-control is important to work in a disciplined way and to make decisions. We lose sight of our goals because we lack the necessary self-control. Some days we are unmotivated and unable to control our actions. ![]() ![]() ![]() OneDrive allows you to put a download limit rate on Mac.
